Honorlock Syllabus Statement Details

The following information is part of the university’s recommended Honorlock syllabus statement, which instructors are encouraged to add to their syllabi.

Additional resources for students and instructors using Honorlock are also available.

Honorlock Remote Proctoring

This course uses Honorlock, a remote proctoring service, to support academic integrity and ensure fair testing conditions for all students. Once the decision to use a proctoring service has been made by the instructor and the student has registered for the course, use of proctoring is a condition of enrollment in the class. By remaining enrolled, you agree to use Honorlock as required for proctored assessments.

If exam formats shift from in-person to online due to unforeseen circumstances, Honorlock may also be used for additional assessments. You will be notified in advance if this occurs.

Why We Use Honorlock

Honorlock supports:

  • Academic integrity by reducing access to unauthorized resources
  • Consistent testing conditions for all students, whether in person or remote
  • Flexible exam formats (e.g., online quizzes, in-person exams using laptops)

What to Expect

You’ll be provided with a practice quiz to test your setup before any graded exams. For each Honorlock-enabled assessment, you will be notified in advance of the specific requirements and settings. Possible features include:

  • Browser guard to prevent internet searches or other navigation
  • Copy/paste/print restrictions to protect exam content
  • Screen, webcam, and microphone recording, with a room scan for remote exams
  • Scientific calculator access, if allowed by the instructor

To use Honorlock, you’ll need:

  • A computer with a functioning webcam and microphone (tablets/phones not supported)
  • A stable internet connection
  • Google Chrome with the Honorlock extension installed

Academic Integrity and Review Process

If Honorlock flags potentially suspicious behavior:

  • Your instructor will review the exam session
  • You may be contacted for clarification
  • Any suspected or confirmed violations will be addressed under the university’s academic misconduct procedures

Failure to comply with proctoring requirements — including refusal to use Honorlock, disabling proctoring features, or using unauthorized materials — may result in a zero on the assessment and/or referral for academic misconduct.

If technical difficulties occur during an exam, contact Honorlock support immediately and inform your instructor as soon as possible.
